Summary:

Supervises the daily activities of transportation operations. Is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable service by developing strategies to mitigate or prevent service impacts due to special events and road construction within the Agency service area. The Service Impacts Supervisor will be responsible for proactively identifying common operational problems due to traffic and road construction changes, development of a strategy and/or recommendation to address potential service impacts, communication of necessary adjustments to Agency personnel and timely notification to management as emergent issues arise.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Service Impacts Supervisor will use their interpersonal skills, mainly in an office setting, to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with both internal staff and with other local and regional jurisdictions to ensure the successful implementation of service adjustments. In addition to core business support, the Service Impacts Supervisor will attend as an Agency representative at external meetings held at local and regional partner locations.

Maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external customers to ensure seamless communication and strong working relationships to stay abreast of traffic, road construction, and event status within Intercity Transits’ service areas.

Coordinates with other transit agencies or key stakeholders to develop, recommend and implement regional detours and re-routes during special events.

Represents the agency in special projects and task forces with regional partners. Collaborates with planning and other departments to annually review, maintain, and update as needed Intercity Transits’ Foul Weather Plan.

Contributes to the goals and objectives of the Department, to include formulation and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and controls to ensure safe and efficient operational activities and adherence to established service, budgetary and customer satisfaction standards.  Recommends changes as warranted.

Communicate same day and future route detours to appropriate personnel. This includes entering detours and messaging to operators through the CAD/AVL system, and by using the TV monitors outside of dispatch.

Knowledge:

  • Supervisory principles and practices;
  • Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations;

  • Operator scheduling practices;
  • Equipment malfunctions and related repair methods;
  • Software used by Operations Supervisors (i.e. CAD/AVL system, TrackIt, other appropriate software as necessary.

Licensing Requirements:

Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement. Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, driving, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Training and Experience:

Associates Degree in a related field and four years of experience as a transit operator; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
