Walk N Roll’s Pedal It Forward program provides refurbished bicycles to people in our community. This community-centered program teaches community members bike mechanic skills, makes bicycling a more accessible form of transportation, and reduces the number of bikes entering landfills.
How it Works
- Donate - People from the community donate gently used bicycles and bike parts to Walk N Roll. Donated bikes are given a new life and purpose instead of ending up in the landfill. Interested in donating to Pedal it Forward? Visit our calendar for the bike donation schedule and details.
- Repair - Donated bikes are refurbished at the Walk N Roll Educational Bike Shop by community volunteers. While refurbishing bikes, volunteers of all skill levels gain bike mechanic skills through hands-on learning. Bikes that are not serviceable are used as instructional tools, stripped for salvageable parts and recycled. Learn more about volunteering with Walk N Roll.
- Return- Between 80 and 100 refurbished bikes are given back to the community each year. With each bike, Walk N Roll provides a helmet and a lock. Bikes are given to youth through our Earn-A-Bike classes and high school bike safety education programs. Bikes are given to adults through our Full Cycle program. To distribute bikes, we partner with local organizations that help people obtain permanent housing, gain employment, or work toward a college degree.
