Volunteer with Walk N Roll Volunteer
Walk N Roll volunteers are an important part of our program’s success. By giving their time and expertise, volunteers allow us to expand our programs and serve more of our community. We have volunteer opportunities for people with all skill levels and experience.
Volunteers support our programs in a variety of ways. They
- Assist with adult and youth bike education classes.
- Help others learn to ride a bike.
- Volunteer at community events.
- Help others with bike repair and maintenance.
- Learn bike mechanic skills while repairing donated bikes.
- Help fit and acquaint riders with their newly refurbished bikes.
- Support group bike rides.
Walk N Roll volunteers contribute to the creation of a safe and respectful learning environment by agreeing to follow these guidelines:
- We support all kinds of bikes and all kinds of riders.
- We allow everyone to learn about bikes at their own pace.
- We respect people’s background and identities, including their names and pronouns.
- We ask for permission before giving someone advice or taking their tools.
- We help clean up and return tools and program materials to the proper place.
- We ask for help when we need it and communicate problems to staff.
- We follow all safety rules and guidelines set by Walk N Roll staff.
Become a WNR Volunteer
Interested in becoming a volunteer? Attend a volunteer orientation to learn more. Find the volunteer orientation schedule and registration information on our calendar. Before volunteering, new volunteers are required to complete our online volunteer application and pass a background check.
Bike Shop Volunteers
At the Walk N Roll Educational Bike Shop, volunteers learn and practice bicycle mechanic skills while refurbishing donated bikes. These bikes are then used to support Walk N Roll’s bicycle education programs. All skill levels are welcome, and no bike mechanic experience is necessary. After applying, new volunteers are invited to attend a shop orientation. Volunteer open shop hours are Wednesdays from 1 - 5 p.m., Saturdays (except the 3rd Saturday of the month) from 9 a.m. -1 p.m., and the second and third Thursdays of the month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. In addition to volunteering at open shop hours, volunteers assist with Bike Maintenance Classes, DIY Bike Repair Events, and other mechanic events.
Bicycle Education Volunteers
Volunteers support Walk N Roll’s adult and youth bike education and Learn to Ride classes. Volunteers provide a variety of support such as: setting-up/cleaning-up class materials and supplies, assisting with instruction, and chaperoning students on group bicycle rides. To assist with adult and bike education classes, volunteers need to be experienced bicyclists who are comfortable riding on roads with traffic.
Special Event and Group Ride Volunteers
Volunteers help at bike rodeo and bike fest events, run the Bike Valet at community events, lead Walk N Roll to School events, support group ride events like the Earth Day Marekt Ride and help install traffic gardens.
