Become a Walk N Roll Volunteer
If you are interested in becoming a Walk N Roll volunteer, please complete our online volunteer application. After we receive your application, we will send you an invitation to complete a background check. We require all volunteers to pass a background check.
Walk N Roll volunteers contribute to the creation of a safe and respectful learning environment by agreeing to follow these guidelines:
- We support all kinds of bikes and all kinds of riders.
- We allow everyone to learn about bikes at their own pace.
- We respect people’s background and identities, including their names and pronouns.
- We ask for permission before giving someone advice or taking their tools.
- We help clean up and return tools and program materials to the proper place.
- We ask for help when we need it and communicate problems to staff.
- We follow all safety rules and guidelines set by Walk N Roll staff.
Bike Shop Volunteer
At the Walk N Roll Educational Bike Shop, volunteers learn and practice bicycle mechanic skills while refurbishing donated bikes. These bikes are then used to support Walk N Roll’s bicycle education programs. All skill levels are welcome, and no bike mechanic experience is necessary. After applying, new volunteers are invited to attend a shop orientation. Volunteer open shop hours are Wednesdays from 1 - 5 p.m., Saturdays (except the 3rd Saturday of the month) from 9 a.m. -1 p.m., and the second and third Thursdays of the month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. In addition to volunteering at open shop hours, volunteers assist with Bike Maintenance Classes, DIY Bike Repair Events, and other mechanic events.
Bicycle Education Class Assistant
Volunteer Class Assistants support Walk N Roll’s bike education and Learn to Ride classes. Volunteers provide a variety of support such as: setting-up/cleaning-up class materials and supplies, assisting with instruction, and chaperoning students on group bicycle rides. Volunteer Class Assistants need to be experienced bicyclists who are comfortable riding on city streets with traffic.
Special Event Volunteers
Volunteers help at bike rodeo and bike fest events, with running the Bike Valet at community events, assisting with Walk N Roll school events, and helping install traffic gardens.
