The Bike Rescue Project is a partnership between Intercity Transit’s Walk N Roll program and Thurston County Solid Waste. The project diverts bikes from the landfill, giving them a new life and purpose!

Instead of throwing them away, community members can donate used bicycles to Walk N Roll’s Pedal It Forward program. Donated bikes are refurbished by volunteers, then given back to the community through our bicycle education and Full Cycle Programs.

What type of bikes can I donate?

We accept donations of adult bicycles with 24” wheels and larger. Bikes that are not serviceable are used as instructional tools, stripped for salvageable parts and recycled.

We do not currently accept kids' bikes with 20” wheels and smaller, BMX bikes, single speed bikes, or full suspension bikes. Other donation options include the Hope Bike Shop at Reeves Middle School, Bikes for Kids in Tacoma, and 2nd Cycle in Tacoma. If you have questions about your bike donation, please contact us at walknroll@intercitytransit.com.

How Do I Donate a Bike to Pedal it Forward?

We partner with Thurston County Public Works to collect bike donations. Drop off bike donations at the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center. Use the entrance for the recycling drop off area. Leave donations in the container labeled “Bike Rescue."
