Intercity Transit offers its employees an excellent comprehensive benefits package, pension plan, educational benefits, state-of-the-art technology and much more. Depending on your employment status and relevant collective bargaining agreements, as an employee of Intercity Transit, you may be eligible for the benefits on this page. Health Care

We provide comprehensive medical and dental insurance coverage for employees and eligible dependents (spouse or state registered domestic partner and children) through the State of Washington Health Care Authority (HCA). Employees and Intercity Transit pay a monthly premium contribution depending upon the plan chosen. For employee-only coverage, an employee may pay between $24 and $469 depending on the plan and number of dependents. Life Insurance

Intercity Transit provides $35,000 life insurance coverage and $5,000 accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage for each regular employee. Additional life insurance coverage can be purchased by the employee through payroll deduction.

Disability Insurance

$50 - $240 per month long-term disability insurance is provided to employees through the State of Washington Health Care Authority (subject to eligibility rules and applicable waiting periods) paid by Intercity Transit. Optional long-term disability insurance coverage available to employees through payroll deduction paid in full by the employee.

Washington State Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS)

Employees are eligible for a state pension/retirement plan through the Washington State Retirement System. Employee and Employer contributions are required at start of employment.

Deferred Compensation Plans (401K and 457)

Intercity Transit offers three voluntary deferred compensation plans. Employees who contribute at least 6.2% to a plan receive a 6.2% employer match. Employee contributions are not subject to federal income tax until withdrawn. Plans are subject to Internal Revenue Service rules and regulations.

Vacation Leave, Sick Leave, and Observed and Floating Holiday Leave

Employees accrue 12 to 25 vacation days per year depending upon date of eligibility and length of service. The maximum accrual limit is 360 hours.

Employees also accrue 12 days of sick leave per year depending upon date of eligibility. The maximum accrual limit is 960 hours.

Floating holiday leave varies between collective bargaining agreements. Depending on the position that you are applying for, you may be eligible for:

Employees represented by ATU, are eligible to receive up to 54 hours of floating holiday time depending on eligibility.  

Employees represented by IAM are eligible to receive up to 48 hours of floating holiday time depending on eligibility. 

Non-represented employees are eligible to receive up to 48 hours of floating holiday time depending on eligibility. 

Social Security and Medicare Insurance

Intercity Transit is exempt from social security withholding, although employees are required to contribute the federally required 1.45 percent of their gross monthly earnings for hospital insurance (Medicare) tax.

Worker's Compensation Insurance

Employees are covered under the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Industrial Insurance Program for job-related accidents, illness and disease. 

Payroll Periods

Employees are paid bi-weekly (every other Friday). There are 26 pay periods per year. Payroll payments are deposited directly into employee's bank accounts. 

Employee Assistance Program

Intercity Transit provides an Employee Assistance Program for all employees. Initial assessment and referral services are provided at no cost to the employee.

Job-Related Travel and Educational Opportunities

Intercity Transit pays expenses for authorized job-related travel, transportation, meals, lodging, and other related expenses. We also pay expenses for approved job-related training and course work (workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.) paid by the Employer. Additionally, Intercity Transit provides tuition reimbursement to employees who pursue non-job-related education, such as degree programs offered at community colleges and universities.

Employee Transportation Program

Intercity Transit encourages its employees to use transportation alternatives to single occupant vehicle travel (driving alone to and from work). To support ridesharing and other alternatives to driving alone, Intercity Transit provides assistance to employees in using transportation alternatives.
