Annual: $111,883.20-$151,028.80Summary:
Plans, leads, and manages the daily operations of the Agency’s Fleet Maintenance division. Responsible for all aspects of fleet maintenance, fleet replacement, and human capital. Manages functions related to regulatory compliance, contracts, and budgeting to support a safe efficient maintenance operation. Supports the Agency’s strategic and business goals and objectives.
DISTINGUISHING
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Manages the daily operations of the Fleet division, responsible and accountable for all vehicle maintenance and repair activities to ensure operational readiness of the fleet of the agency’s revenue and non-revenue vehicles and required specialized support functions. Responsible for the achievement of vehicle maintenance performance and operational goals, and establishes the systems and processes required to fulfill those goals with a mindset of continuous improvement. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the department director. As a manager, supervises Fleet Maintenance Supervisors.
Essential Duties:
Knowledge:
- Fleet maintenance principles, practices, techniques and equipment;
- Design, major components, subassemblies and auxiliary equipment of coaches used in mass transit operations;
- Operations, policies and procedures of a transit division;
- Project management principles;
- Regulatory and statutory requirements that govern the maintenance and operation of mass transit vehicles;
- Hybrid technology, alternative fuels and green fleet alternatives;
- Human resources management, supervisory principles and federal, state and local laws related to employment;
- Principles, practices and techniques of labor relations that include interest-based or collaborative labor negotiations as well as grievance and arbitration processes;
- Workforce planning and budget administration;
- Vehicle maintenance and management information systems.

Licensing Requirements:
- Washington State Driver License
- Must submit to a criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.
- Work requires reporting for duty and directing vehicle maintenance operations during adverse weather events and other emergencies.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, and seeing.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field;
- Five years of increasingly responsible experience;
- Experience with collective bargaining units preferred;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
