Annual: $92,476.80-$124,841.60Summary:
The Advanced Technology and Training Coordinator serves as the department’s technical and advanced technology subject matter expert. This position will perform professional and administrative work related to technical training of the Fleet maintenance division staff and other agency staff as needed. technical training may include, but not be limited to the following: new vehicles and/or vehicle components; refresher training for compliance, safety and efficiency; and implementation of zero emissions or other fleet-related technologies. Additionally, the trainer will assist in the diagnosis of vehicles that present elusive or extremely complex problems. The Advanced Technology and Training Coordinator will also develop training material and ensure that the department has the latest in diagnosing software and tools. Serves as the subject matter expert on uses of training to achieve organizational and employee career development goals.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position has oversight of all aspects of fleet maintenance technical and advanced technology training and training programs that are consistent with both agency goals and regulatory requirements, including conducting skills assessment, developing strategic training plans, overseeing third party trainers, and conducting specific trainings, including maintenance safety trainings and zero emissions vehicles. This person will work collaboratively with directors, managers, and department personnel to identify training needs and to address training related performance issues. Advises employees at all levels about professional development and continuing education within the fleet maintenance division.

- Diesel Engine Tune-up, troubleshooting, and repair
- Automatic Transmission and hybrid drive troubleshooting and repair
- HVAC systems
- Electrical system troubleshooting and repair
- Air Brake and ABS systems
- Camera and AVL systems

- Principles and techniques of modern adult education programs, and classroom techniques;

Licensing Requirements:
Valid WA State Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and air-brake restriction removed;
Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate;
Must submit to criminal background check the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Diesel Technology or Automotive Technology, or a related field and Four years of experience as a journey level technician or
- Associate degree in Diesel Technology or Automotive Technology, or a related field and Six years of experience as a journey level technician or
- Ten years of journey level technician and
- ASE Master Certified Technician in Heavy Duty or Automotive or Transit Buses
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
