Intercity Transit seeks advisors to help shape public transit
Apply now to serve on the Intercity Transit Authority or Community Advisory Committee

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Intercity Transit Authority (ITA) is seeking civic-minded individuals who represent our diverse community to serve as advisors on the ITA or on the Community Advisory Committee (CAC).

The ITA, a nine-member Board of Directors that sets policy and direction for the transit agency, is made up of elected officials who represent the Thurston County Board of Commissioners and the Cities of Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia, and Yelm, a labor representative, and three community representatives. There is an opening for one community representative, to serve a three-year term. The community representative must live within the public transportation benefit area.

To apply for the ITA community representative position, send a letter of interest and a resume to Intercity Transit Authority, Attn: Pat Messmer, P.O. Box 659, Olympia, WA 98507-0659; hand-deliver materials to 510 Pattison SE, Olympia, WA 98501; or email materials to pmessmer@intercitytransit.com. Materials must be received by 5 p.m., Oct. 4, 2024.

The CAC is a 20-member advisory group that provides input to the ITA on local public transportation issues. Nineteen members serve three-year terms, while youth positions serve a one-year term. Members of the committee represent a cross-section of the community and must live, work, or attend school in Thurston County to apply. Individual service users, businesses, nonprofit groups, students, and other community members are encouraged to apply. As part of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we are specifically seeking representation from:

  • Active-duty military and veterans.
  • BIPOC.
  • People living with disabilities.
  • Fixed income families.
  • LGBTQ+ community.
  • Seniors.
  • Youth.
  • Persons living in rural areas.
