Intercity Transit partners with Transit to deliver a premium trip planning app and real-time information to passengers

Olympia, Wash. — Intercity Transit has announced a new partnership with Transit, one of the world’s most popular apps for traveling with public transit.

Transit is a free mobile app that helps riders easily navigate public transit in more than 1,200 cities in 40 countries around the world. It shows riders the fastest routes, real-time vehicle locations, and step-by-step trip plans.

As part of the partnership, Transit will become Intercity Transit’s recommended tool for public transit trip planning in Thurston County, and riders in the service area will automatically receive free access to Royale, Transit’s premium subscription. With Royale, riders can access unlimited departure schedules, additional trip planning options, custom app themes and icons, and more.

Intercity Transit can also communicate with riders through the app, keeping them informed of important changes and events as they happen. This includes automated detour detection, which displays unplanned detours in the Transit app after multiple vehicles go off route in the same pattern. Detour detection will be available in late September 2026.

“This partnership makes using Intercity Transit more accessible and intuitive for our passengers,” said Emily Bergkamp, General Manager of Intercity Transit. “By removing barriers and providing up-to-date information through the Transit app’s seamless experience, we’re empowering riders to plan and navigate our bus system with confidence, which will make riding public transit easier than ever.”

“Our mission has always been to help people get around without their own car,” said Sam Vermette, CEO of Transit. “Every month we help 8 million people around the world navigate their cities by bus, train, foot, bike, and more, and that wouldn’t be possible without our agency partners. We’re proud to be working hand-in-hand with Intercity Transit to unlock the best app experience for their riders.”

Through this partnership, Intercity Transit and Transit will work in tandem to make public transit more reliable and easier to use throughout Thurston County.
